How does your studio reflect your style?
I had a studio which looked like an office. It was a very traditional workspace with white cabinets, tons of tables and almost what seemed little cubes of super organized things everywhere. It became too neurotic looking for my tastes and though it was organized, it wasn’t very comfortable for me and my dog. When I moved I decided my workspace would be more comfy, less uptight. A nice couch, my books, vintage toys and art I’ve collected all around me. I don’t like to think of it as a studio, more like “study” or “batcave” if you will.
My couch. I have a rule. All and any email, typing, and admin has to get done on the couch. I set up a small printer on a side table with a laptop so there is no excuse. My dog Gilda really likes the couch too.
What pieces in your studio inspire you?
The old toys and books play a huge part in distracting :cough: inspiring me. Currently my space doesn’t have much for windows - so those items gives me an easy way to daydream and think about new things.
Do you have any handmade or vintage decor pieces?
I have a ton of old toys, objects, art, furniture and random doo-dads I have collected through the years.
Sadly, because of space issues in NYC I have 75% of the stuff in storage.
What is favorite color palette and how did you implement this in your space?
I just wanted warm colors and tons of patterns to blend in with all the toys and books. It was the total opposite from my last larger space which had white furniture, was modern, and very official looking. Since most of my stuff in storage, I also had to make the decision of only displaying the things that were the most important to me and realistically made sense to put up.
What is the one tool used in your creation process you treasure the most?
I have a pair of scissors that I have been cutting with since I was 15. It is amazing how this small object has floated with me through life and has never gotten misplaced.
What are the books or magazines that inspire you?
I enjoy old children books. The illustrations in them are amazing and wonderful to look at. The stories are incredible too because they are scary and terrifying if you compared to the books today. I have many pop up books to look at and play with. Comic books - mainly graphic novels and small press titles - is something I have always love reading and looking at also.
What changes/upgrades would you like to make in the future?
I would love a space with more windows looking out into a yard or some trees. When I travel down south and work from there I have these huge windows to look out of and that is pretty nice. I would also love to have a toilet that didn’t run (i can hear it going as I’m typing this). Looking forward 5 or 10 years it would be lovely to have a messy garage workshop.

Great feature! I like the modern fairy card in her shop! I'd love to have a couch in my studio, but it is way too small ;-)
have a great day,
